Bio
Brian C. Barnes joined the Loyola faculty in 2010 to assume the role of Deputy Director of the Law Library. In 2013, he was appointed as Interim Law Library Director and named as Director in 2017. Professor Barnes was previously at Mississippi College School of Law for five years in multiple positions at the law library and taught Legal Research. While at Mississippi College he co-created the the Mississippi College Judicial Data Project.
Professor Barnes is active in the American Association of Law Libraries, has served as President of the New Orleans Association of Law Libraries and the Central Mississippi Library Council, Chair of the ABA Legal Education Police Practices Consortium Librarian Working Group, was Editor of the Southeastern Chapter American Association of Law Libraries (SEAALL) Newsletter for four years, and has served on the boards of the AJCU Conference of Law Libraries and the Society of Academic Law Library Directors. He has presented at CLE's by NBI, Loyola University New Orleans, Mississippi College, and the Mississippi Prosecutor's Conference, and he has presented at conferences including the SEAALL Annual Conference and the Southwestern Association of Law Libraries (SWALL) Annual Conference.
He is licensed to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern & Southern Districts of Mississippi, and all state courts in Alabama and Mississippi.
Professor Barnes teaches the 3-credit hour experiential course, Advanced Legal Research, and in the Loyola skills program.
